People often describe
decision making as “choosing among available alternatives.” However, this view is too simplistic, because decision making is a process, not just a simple act of choosing among available alternatives.
Decision-making process is a set of eight steps that starts with identifying a problem, then moves through selecting an alternative that can solve it, and concludes with evaluating the effectiveness of the decision.
The steps in the decision-making process are:
Identify a problem
Identify decision criteria
Allocate weights to the criteria
Develop alternatives
Analyze alternatives
Select an alternative
Implement the alternative
Evaluate decision effectiveness
